I was wondering the same thing...you never did answer Gireeja.
As far as the inches thing goes...it's not at all that America export much fashion (hell, even 'good' American fashion designers are basically unheard of). The truth is that America is a huge importer of fashion. Oh, and most self-proclaimed "critics" are American.
